SeaLink Travel Group (SLK: ASX) (SeaLink) today announced it is expanding operations for Captain Cook Cruises in Sydney after the NSW State Government granted permission for a new ferry service to and from the International Convention Centre (ICC) wharf and Circular Quay.
The ICC ferry will commence in 4 weeks, operating daily from early morning to early evening between the ICC, Barangaroo and Circular Quay.
Managing Director of SeaLink, Jeff Ellison, said: “Captain Cook Cruises is delighted to be starting the ICC ferry service, with further route options under active consideration. It will provide a simple transport solution that will cut travelling time for delegates and visitors to and from Circular Quay and the Barangaroo/King Street Wharf to the ICC.”
“The new service is consistent with our strategy to further extend “blue highway” opportunities on Sydney Harbour”, Mr Ellison said.
Captain Cook Cruises has designed and built, fast, low emission, 60-passenger catamaran ferries to operate at high frequency for visitors and commuters around Sydney’s inner harbour. These ferries will provide additional transport options for ICC delegates while helping reduce traffic in and around Sydney’s CBD.
The announcement comes after the Hon. Andrew Constance, Minister for Transport and Infrastructure today announced commercial ferry operators will be allowed to provide direct services to Convention Wharf and services between Manly and Barangaroo without needing a passenger service contract with Transport for NSW.
“From today, we’ve removed the red tape for private operators allowing them to deliver more and better ferry services around our harbour including taking visitors directly to the new International Convention Centre,” Mr Constance said.
“Our ability, under the State Government’s policy settings, to run a new ICC route and also a potential direct service between Manly and Barangaroo represents an exciting growth path for Captain Cook Cruises on Sydney Harbour.” Mr Ellison said.
