PERTH'S new ferry service to Rottnest will begin in less than three weeks, offering fares about 20 per cent lower than its competitor.
SeaLink unveiled Quokka I, its 35m jet-powered catamaran that will operate six daily services to WA’s premier holiday island from B Shed in Fremantle Harbour.
Adult fares will start from $63 for the return journey, which includes the $18 landing fee. This compares to $79 changed by Rottnest Express.
SeaLink says it will also have the first service to Rottnest each day, leaving Fremantle at 6.45am, and the last service to leave the island, at 8.05pm.
It will also offer a special two-for-one fare in November.
“We will be operating six return ferry services to Rottnest Island per day, representing up to an additional 700,000 seats to the island each year, which will make visiting Rottnest Island more affordable than ever,” SeaLink WA general manager Andrew Lane said.
“Increased competition is always a good thing and at the end of the day, the customer wins, both in terms of improved pricing and service.”
Rottnest Express has recently made an island day-trip cheaper by introducing the Quokka Club, where registered children under 12 travel for free. They also have Telethon Tuesdays where a return adult ticket costs only $39, including the landing fee.
