SeaLink South Australia, Silver Winner At Australian Tourism Awards

South Australian success story SeaLink has won a silver medal at the Australian Tourism Award, cementing its position as one of the nation’s leading Tour and Transport companies.

Announced at a gala dinner at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Friday (10 April), the company beat a tough line-up from across the nation to win the medal in the Major Tour and Transport category.

SeaLink is part of the South Australian based company SeaLink Travel Group which currently has operations across three states and the Northern Territory operating under the well-recognised brands of “SeaLink” and “Captain Cook Cruises”.

“We are delighted to win this award which reflects the hard work of our team and our Board who have ensured we remain at the forefront of tourism nationally,” SeaLink Managing Director Jeff Ellison said.

SeaLink has won a string of state and business awards over the years since it started its Kangaroo Island operations in 1989.

While SeaLink in South Australia is best known for its ferry services to Kangaroo Island, the company also operates and manages numerous other tourism and transport related businesses including Adelaide Sightseeing, Kangaroo Island Odysseys, Kangaroo Island Adventure Tours and Vivonne Bay Lodge on Kangaroo Island as well as the iconic PS Murray Princess on the Murray River and the Australian Holiday Centre in Adelaide.

Mr Ellison said Kangaroo Island was Australia’s must-see destination, famous for its wildlife, food, wine and stunning scenery and extremely popular with domestic and international visitors alike.

“There is so much to see and do on Kangaroo Island from getting up close and personal with Australian Sea Lions, kangaroos, Tammar wallabies and koalas to wandering along pristine beaches and sampling local produce and wines,” he said.

Mr Ellison said as well as providing passenger ferry services, SeaLink operates small and large coach touring, 4x4 personalised luxury tours and self-drive package options as well as offering accommodation ranging from high end luxury to contemporary budget.

“The business model of combining modern transport with tourism options is something we have successfully replicated in Queensland from Townsville to Magnetic Island and from Darwin in the Northern Territory to Mandorah and the Tiwi Islands,” he said.

SeaLink Travel Group successfully listed on the Australian Securities Exchange on 16 October 2013 (ASX code: SLK).

SeaLink owns and operates a fleet of 26 vessels, carrying more than 3,000,000 passengers per year. Additionally, SeaLink operates a fleet of 25 coaches and touring passenger vehicles. SeaLink has more than 600 employees across the country and generates more than $110m in revenue.
